For many Asperger’s individuals there may be an inherent difficulties in dealing with strangers in a high stress moments (emergency personnel, police officers, teachers, bosses, strangers, etc.). Miscommunications and unnecessary escalation can create dangerous situations with other people that may be avoidable.

One brilliant attempt to address this is the “Asperger’s ID Card”, created by the folks at Aspergers Association of New England.

Similar to cards that warn emergency personnel of allergies, medications, and other health concerns, the Asperger’s ID Card is designed to explain to first responders how to safely work with an Asperger’s Individual in a high stress situation.
